Tata Nano Catches Fire In Mumbai
Another Tata Nano has been reported to have caught fire. Autocarpro has posted an image of a white Tata Nano which had caught fire in Mumbai on 10th November. According to the report there were three occupants in the car and none of them were injured.
It seems to be very difficult for us to forget instances of the Tata Nano catching fire. This is the first time in 2012 that a Nano has caught fire. Tata Motors has had to do some heavy fire fighting following the media reports about Tata Nanos catching fire across the country.
Tata Motors has earlier stated that the fires were caused by after market electronic parts used by Nano owners. Despite that Tata Motors added additional fire proofing materials in both previously sold Nanos and newly built Nanos.
The Tata Nano and fire had once become synonymous with each other. Even a Nano sold in Sri Lanka had caught fire within a month of it being sold. There are more than ten recorded instances of Tata Nanos catching fire.
Thankfully, the updated new 2012 Tata Nano had not reported any fire accidents until the recent report. However, pointing at the Tata Nano as an unsafe car will not be right. All car brands would have experienced such accidents due to faulty electricals or some other defects.
The fire accidents have definitely had an impact on the image of the Nano. Sales of the world's cheapest car have not been anywhere above average and Tata Motors has been trying to market the car more effectively. But more importantly the Nano's fortunes will improve once Tata Motors launches CNG and diesel variants in 2013.
