Renault India has made it official. The French carmaker has posted a huge half page print advertisement of the Duster announcing its impending launch, The Renault Duster's ad has been published in all major newspapers today. The Duster is expected to be launched in the first week of July.
The Duster is Renualt's first SUV in India. It will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. There will be five variants of the duster with three coming with diesel power.
The Duster's petrol variant will be powered by a 1.6-litre engine paired with a five speed manual gearbox. The engine is said to be capable of churning out 100bhp of power. The diesel engine is a 1.6-litre pot capable of generating 108bhp. It will be mated to a six speed manual gearbox.
The Duster's petrol variants will be available with RxE and RxL trim levels while the diesel variants will come with RxE, RxL and the top end RxZ.
The most attractive feature of the Renault Duster will be its price. It is considered as a low cost SUV in Europe where it is sold as the Dascia Duster. It is widely believed that the Duster's price will range between Rs. 8 Lakhs and Rs.11 lakhs. Such a price will mean the Duster will compete against established models such as the Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari.
The Renault Duster's ad describes the SUV as big, beautiful and efficient hinting at superb mileage figures despite being an SUV. The Duster is expected to do to Renault India what the Sunny did to Nissan. The Duster can be expected to deliver the kind of volume sales that the Sunny has delivered to Nissan.
