General Motors India has launched the upgraded new Chevrolet Cruze D-segment sedan at a starting price of Rs 13.85 lakhs. The new Cruze has been priced Rs 1.31 lakhs high over the current model. The sedan will be available in three variants; LT base manual variant at Rs 13.85 lakhs, LTZ manual variant at Rs 14,77 lakhs and LTZ AT automatic variant at Rs 15,67 lakhs.
The Cruze has been one car that changed the fortunes of General Motors along with the Beat small car. However, it is not the facelifted Cruze which was showcased at the recent Busan Motor that has been launched now.
The new Chevrolet Cruze does not sport many cosmetic design changes. Instead the new Cruze gets the lively new Z-series of turbo charged diesel engines. The Cruze is available in India only in its diesel variant and Chevrolet has not bothered to bring a petrol variant.
The new Cruze's Z-Series engine will be more rev happy and responsive. With a square bore-stroke layout, this engine will also be smooth. The current model is powered by the VCDi engine which has been criticised for the long lag. The major complaint from Cruze drivers is about the lack of power from the engine particular while driving in slow moving traffic.
The new Cruze's Z-Series engine is expected to have a shorter turbo lag helping in improving the sedan's drivability. Further the engine delivers more power and torque than the existing model. You will now have 164bhp and 380Nm of torque at your disposal while driving the new Cruze.
This is an additional 16bhp of power and 53Nm of torque more than the existing model. Chevrolet will be launching two variants of the Cruze, one with the six speed manual gearbox and another with the automatic transmission.
The Cruze gets an array of new features like 6-way power adjustable seats, Start-Stop button, power express driver side window with pinch protection; front fog lights, tilt & telescopic steering wheel, Up-level smart screen on the LT variant, clutch footrest and premium speakers.
