Finding the right parking space in crowded city areas could be one of the most difficult thing to do now a days. While we fret and worry about getting the closest and clear parking space by searching for it, researchers in the UK are developing a new app that will find you the perfect parking space.
The Westminster City Council is conducting an experiment where sensors are placed in parking spaces. The sensors are able to detect if the parking space is taken or not. This information will be available to road users through a smart phone app or a tablet app. The information will be updated live on the app and car users can find the parking space without much hassles.
This is the first time such an experiment on parking spaces is being conducted. IF successful, this parking space finder app will be made available across the city of London which is facing serious congestion issues.
The developers of this app are planning to integrate the app in to car's satnav systems so that drivers need not check their phones to find the best parking spot. The Westminster City Council is conducting trials of this parking space finder app in select streets for a period of three months.
If this project is successful, the developers of this app intend to provide a sensor the vehicles of registered users so that they can find vacant parking spaces more easily. They say this app will help reduce city traffic as statistics show 30 per cent of this traffic is due to people looking for parking spaces.
This app will definitely be useful for people who wish to use the proper parking space. But in some places we will see people encroaching on pavements to park their vehicles. This image was taken on a street in Bangalore where the Toyota Qualis owner has managed to block the footpath with his car.
