Indian SUV major Mahindra is set to inaugurate its first electric vehicle facility at Bangalore by end of August, sources say. The manufacturing facility which will produce Mahindra's soon to be launched Reva NXR electric car will have an annual capacity of 30,000 units.
The two-door four seater Reva NXR electric car is one of the most awaited launches in the year. The car which is expected to launch sometime in the end of 2012 will have a price tag below Rs 5 lakh.
Electric power in the Reva NXR comes from a constant drive motor that produces maximum power of 17.5 BHP and peak torque of 55 Nm. The electric motor is capable to speed the car to a top speed of 85 km/hour.
The body of the small car has been made strong with the use of ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic which helps the car stand impacts. The exterior of the Reva NXR sports impressive projector hadlamps, large grill and larger tyres.
The Reva NXR which will use Lithium ion battery stack as the power source claims a drive range of 160 kilo metres on a four hour full charge. The Reva NXR is a best option for people who are looking to overcome rising fuel costs. The electric car would be quite effective for commuters who drive around city limits.
