Mahindra To Launch Verito Compact Sedan In March
Mahindra and Mahindra's President and CEO Dr Pawan Goenka has now revealed the company's plans to launch the Verito CS (the possible name for the shortened Verito sedan) by March 2013. The compact sedan has become an attractive segment for carmakers in India following the success of the new Swift DZire. More such products are expected to be launched in the coming months of 2013.
The smaller new Verito is expected to be priced much lower than the current variant thanks to lesser excise duty on sub four metre cars. The price difference could be as much as INR 50,000 if Mahindra doesn't add any new features.
Maruti Suzuki had priced the compact Swift DZire very much closer to its predecessor despite reduced excise duties as it had added some new features to the sedan, If Mahindra follows Maruti, then do not expect a marked decrease in the new Verito's price.
The Verito CS will be Mahindra's second compact car following the Quanto. The Verito CS will be competing against Maruti's best selling sedan, the Swift DZire, the Tata Indigo CS as well as the soon to be launched Brio based Honda Amaze sedan.
Looking in to the technical aspects of the Verito CS, it will be powered by Renault's familiar K9K diesel engine. We do not expect to see a petrol variant of the Verito as Mahindra does not have an engine that complies with government norms on compact cars. According to the rules a compact car must have a petrol engine which is smaller than 1.2 litres.
The Mahindra Verito CS's launch will either precede or follow the launch of the new Honda Amaze. This will definitely create some heat in the compact sedan segment. The beneficiary will be the car buyer who will then have a greater choice.
