The RR Ghost costs Rs.1.25 crores while its registration and import duty takes its price to Rs.3.45 crores. The increased customs duty on cars has meant Shankar had to pay Rs.1.75 crores as duty. The registration fee was Rs.45 lakhs. Shankar has also spent some extra bucks to get a special number plate – TN09 BQ 0008.
Shankar joins an elite list of film personalities who own a Rolls-Royce. Some of the notable names are Amitabh bhachchcan, Aamir Khan, Director Vidu Vinod Chopra and Sanjay Dutt. The British carmaker is very choosy about who owns a Rolls-Royce. It was recently in the news for refusing to sell one of its cars to Bollywood Actress Mallika Sherawat .
Rolls-Royce which was previously associated with Indian Royalty is now looking at celebrities to boost its brand image in the country. However, its choice of buyers remains tight. It currently sells Three variants of the Phantom and two variants of the Ghost sedan in India.
