Porsche Renames Cajun As Macan, Debut Soon

Porsche has officially named its mini SUV which is still under development. The new Porsche SUV which is smaller than the Cayenne was being referred to as the Cajun (Cayenne Junior in short). The Success of the Cayenne made Porsche consider he development of a smaller cheaper SUV and the result was the Cajun.

The Porsche Cajun will now be named as the Macan. The Macan's first images were revealed by Porsche recently. The Macan will be more of a sports SUV that will offer a more powerful driving experience than the conventional SUV.

The Porsche Macan's name also indicates its sporty credentials. The name means means tiger in Indonesian. Porsche claims the Macan also has the same features as the tiger – power, agility, dynamics and suppleness.

Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG said, “The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche. The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations."

The Porsche Macan will be a very important model for the German sports car manufacturer. It is aiming to increase its sales by 2018 to help Volkswagen AG become the world's largest carmaker. The car is expected to make its debut in a major auto show this year. Porsche will begin the Macan's production in 2013. Porsche believes, the Macan can become its best selling model ahead of the Cayenne.
