Will Tata Replace Under-performing Indica, Sumo?

Tata-Indica
Tata Motors is reportedly planning to replace its under-performing models like the Indica, Indigo Marina and the Sumo with new models. These models haven't been performing well for the carmaker for quite a while with falling market share and poor profitability.

Tata may replace the 14-year-old Indica with the newer Vista hatchback which reported high sales in March. There is also a possibility that the carmaker may retain the old car as a taxi only model alike Maruti Suzuki's old Swift Dzire.

The carmaker could also phase out the Indigo Marina stationwagon which wasn't well received in the market like any other estate car. Tata Motors had earlier stopped production of the Tata Estate stationwagon along with the Sierra.

Tata's Sumo SUV will also reportedly see an end with the car hugely losing ground to Mahindra Bollero. The SUV was much popular in the market when it was launched, but its market share fell drastically in the past years.

The Indian auto giant had massive sales growth in the month of March with its Nano small car and Vista compact car sales shooting up into double digits. Meanwhile, the carmaker is also mulling to make maximum use of its Sanand facility in Gujarat by producing other cars in the factory, which is only manufacturing the Nano small car now.
