India Car Buyers Prefer Power Than Mileage
The poll asked a simple question. What was the most important aspect a car buyer would look at before buying one. The options were Price and Mileage, Design and Look, Power and Performance and finally Interiors and Space. The results were quite startling as more that 51 per cent of the respondents said they look at power and performance.
If you though the price and mileage will at least get second place, you are wrong. The second most preferred aspect of a car is design and look which garnered a respectable 23 per cent of votes. The third place finally went to price and mileage with 21 per cent. The fourth and final option Interiors and space got 4 per cent of votes.
The results are a clear indication of car buyers now looking at their car's performance more keenly that its price or mileage. Although the increasing fuel prices have made car buyers conscious of their vehicle's mileage, performance is still a bigger matter of concern. However they are readyto pay a higher price to get the car o their choice.
The reason for this shift in opinion is very easy to understand. The typical Indian car buyer is now younger, earns more and prefers to enjoy his drive rather than just travel. It could be the reason why sales of entry level models are lower than the higher end variants of the same model.
With the increased number of cars being sold within the price range of Rs.3 Lakhs to Rs.7 lakhs, buyers now have an option of choosing either the economical one, a good looking car or a car that offer oodles of power.
Interiors and space has just about managed to get 4 per cent of votes probably because we Indians are generally not too large. Further we are so used to slightly cramped hatchbacks that we are satisfied with the space available in the new crop of cars.
