The Tata Zica is designed very well — that is what one would notice first. The car has sharp lines, sloping rear window, and the snub-nose design is new, as no other Tata model is designed as such. The front grille is very well finished, making it blend well with the headlight design of the car. In other words, the Tata Zica is well proportioned.
The Hyundai Grand i10 is another very stylish looking car, but the design has been around for a while now. The swept back headlights, and the narrow chrome insert on the front grille between the headlights makes the i10 look sporty.
The Tata Zica comes packed with features to make driving a pleasure. Some notable creature comforts in the Zica are reverse parking sensors, smart phone compatible infotainment system with bluetooth and navigation, power windows, and a Harman audio system, similar to the Zest and Bolt.
The Grand i10 too, is not short of features, since Hyundai loves to give more than what a customer bargains for. The i10 features a 2-DIN entertainment system with Bluetooth, rear AC vents, height adjustable driver's seat, cooled glove box, reverse parking sensors, and a push button start.
Engine & Gearbox
Both, the Tata Zica and the Hyundai Grand i10 are available with a choice of petrol or diesel engines.
- Tata Zica Petrol: 1,199cc, 3-cylinder engine (84bhp, 114Nm torque)
- Tata Zica Diesel: 1, 047cc, 3-cylinder engine (69bhp, 140Nm torque)
- Hyundai Grand i10 Petrol: 1,197cc, 4-cylinder engine (82bhp, 113Nm torque)
- Hyundai Grand i10 Diesel: 1,120cc, 3-cylinder engine (70bhp, 160Nm torque)
The Tata Zica is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the Hyundai Grand i10 is offered with a 5-speed manual, as well as a 4-speed automatic gearbox, restricted to the petrol variant.
The Tata Zica returns a mileage efficiency of approximately 20km/l with the petrol variant, while the diesel engine is expected to return 25km/l. The Hyundai Grand i10 returns 19km/l with the petrol engine and 24km/l with the diesel engine.
The Tata Zica has dual airbags and complies with Indian crash test norms that will soon become mandatory for all vehicles sold in India. The Hyundai Grand i10 comes with dual airbags as well, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
So which of the two cars is a better buy — the Tata Zica or the Hyundai Grand i10? The Tata Zica is a very promising car, trying to make Tata establish its name in the affordable car market. The Zica has a good design, features, and an efficient engine. However, the Grand i10 gains the edge over the Zica with a little bit more of everything.
DriveSpark Thinks! The Tata Zica is a great car to buy if one wants to venture into the Tata models after how the Zest and Bolt under performed. The Grand i10 however, is a tried, tested, and proven model.
