Renault Lodgy vs Innova vs Mobilio vs Ertiga Comparison

The MUV or the MPV segment is on the rise now in India. Battling it out in this segment are four competitors, from France, India and two Japanese carmakers.

The Toyota Innova has proved to be the best till date, with the pricing, features and its reliable engine. Competing with the Innova are the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and the very recently launched Renault Lodgy.

So on a straight out battle, which of these four will emerge as the winner, in terms of pricing, features, specification and safety of course. Which of the four will prove to be the best value for money? Read on:

Renault Lodgy:
Renault has tried to display the strong performance of the Lodgy with its exterior design. The Lodgy gets a chrome finished front grille, two-tone bumper with roof rails, daytime running lights and a tail lamp to resemble an arrow in motion. The Lodgy gets 15-inch wheels.

Toyota Innova:
The Toyota Innova has a large front grille with lots of chrome, sporty side moulding, dual tone 15-inch wheels and a chrome back door garnish with reflector. This adds to the look to give it a more upmarket feel, but to a few, it's just too much of unwanted chrome.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga:
The Ertiga looks much more like a hatchback from the front, since it is based on the Swift platform. It shares a lof of design features with the Swift. The Ertiga does not feature daytime running lights or projector lamps. The Ertiga too rides on 15 inch wheels.

Honda Mobilio:
The design concept of the Mobilio is Dual-Solid Motion creating the fusion of a dynamic body and glassy cabin. It incorporates a sporty stance which is expressed by the front grille, sharp spoiler and character line on the side. The Mobilio features 15-inch wheels.

Renault Lodgy:
The Lodgy is available with as a 7 or an 8 seater option. The Lodgy has adequate space for people even in the third row. The MPV from Renault has climate control, MediaNav multimedia system with 7-inch touchscreen, rear parking aid, Eco mode, and chrome-finished AC vents.

Toyota Innova:
The Innova offers a seating choice for 7 or 8 people and provides comfortable seating in all three rows. This Japanese brand has features like a media system with USB and aux inputs, steering-mounted controls, reverse camera, and auto climate control in the top end variant.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga:
With seating of up to 7 people, the last row is best suited for kids. The top end variant of the Ertiga offers features like individual air conditioning vents for the second row, USB and aux inputs are present for the music system and so is a height-adjustable driver's seat.

Honda Mobilio:
Honda offers seating for 7 people as well. The first two rows have comfortable space while the third row can accommodate adults, but with a bit of discomfort. The mobilio's creature comforts and features include individual air conditioning vents for the second row, USB and aux inputs for the music system and a height-adjustable driver's seat. Similar to that of an Ertiga.

Renault Lodgy:
The Renault Lodgy is offered with a diesel engine only, but with two specifications. It is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel mill with 85 PS, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This same engine is tuned to produce 110 PS, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It has a wheelbase of 2810 mm, ground clearance of 174 mm and boot space of 207 litres with all the seats upright.

Toyota Innova:
The Toyota Innova is powered by a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, diesel engine that produces 101 bhp. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the MPV has a ground clearance of 176 mm, wheelbase 2750 mm and 300 litres of boot space with all three rows of seats in an upright position.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga:
The Ertiga is available with a choice of a 1.4-litre petrol engine that produces 95 PS and a 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces 90 PS of power. Both are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Etriga's ground clearance is 185 mm, wheelbase is 2740 mm and boot space is 135 litres with all three rows of seat in use.

Honda Mobilio:
The mobilio too has a choice of a petrol as well as a diesel engine. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine produces 119 PS and the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine produces 100 PS. It has a ground clearance of 189 mm, wheelbase of 2652 mm and boot space of 223 litres with three rows of upright seating.

ABS, EBD, and dual airbags are available in the top variants of all four vehicles, but the Innova has it as a standard feature. Reverse parking camera is available on the Mobilio, Innova and the Renault Lodgy.

Verdict:

The Toyota Innova has been the leader in this segment for a long time now. The Renault Lodgy however, has the most powerful engine compared to the others in our list, has more features, offers good space and is also priced almost INR 4 lakhs cheaper than the Innova. The Ertiga is the cheapest of the four and the Mobilio is the sportiest looking. So where should you place your money? The Renault Lodgy of course!
