New Volkswagen Ameo Exterior & Interior Design

The Volkswagen Ameo was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016, the car is engineered based on the Volkswagen Polo platform and product.

The front fascia looks is right out of the Polo design. The dual-beam headlamps are finished in black. The ORVM's are electric and finished off with LED turn indicators.

The single slat of the air damp shows off the straight lines of the car, a signature of the Volkswagen design. The Ameo gets static cornering lights, a first among the sub-four-metre compact sedans.

The rear profile of the car carries forward the straight line design and has been elegantly finished. The boot has been designed to keep the car within the sub-four-metre limit and achieves the premium look that Volkswagen is known for.

As for the interior of the car, its a carbon copy of the Polo, with the dual tone colour combination and silver accents to the centre console and air vents.

The three-spoke steering wheel has the audio and phone controls for ease of access. Also, the rear passenger will get air-con vent, which is becoming a norm in current four-wheelers.

Volkswagen Ameo Engine Specifications & Features

The sedan is powered by 1.2 litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and the diesel gets a 1.5 litre 4-cylinder engine. The petrol engine will punch out 104bhp and 175Nm of torque and will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The diesel engine will push out 89bhp and 230Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual and 7-speed automatic DSG transmission.

The car will feature MirrorLink which will mirror your phone screen to the touch-screen infotainment system. This will help you drive your and access phone calls, messaging and your music from the controls of the steering wheel. Also, it features the rear parking camera and sensors to help you park without any hassle.

Also, the car features first-in-segment, rain sensing wipers and cruise control. The driver will get front armrest storage, footwell LED lights and cooled glovebox.

Climatronic, which is a computer controlled air-conditioning, auto dimming IRVM, and remote controlled windows are added features.

Ameo Performance & Mileage

The sedan will come with both the manual and automatic gearbox, and Volkswagen calls its automatic gearbox as DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox). We expect mileage to be 17kmpl for the petrol and 20kmpl for the diesel manual and the automatic could vary between 17-18 kmpl.

Since the power output of 104 bhp for the petrol engine, this car expected to be faster than its rivals. The diesel too is good comparatively better than its competitors, and the torque is exceptionally better to give it a better ride.

Volkswagen Ameo Pricing

The manufacturer is yet to announce the actual pricing, however, considering the segment that it will compete with, expect it to be between Rs. 6 lakhs to Rs 9 lakhs ex-showroom.

Ameo Verdict

The Volkswagen Ameo has been well thought-out car from the German manufacturer, and the company claims to have developed it with localised products to achieve the best of pricing.

A whole lot of premium features have been added to the car compared to its rivals like Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Aspire. This could be a take away if you go by the branding of Volkswagen.

Also, if you are looking for a faster car from the available sub-four-metre compact sedan, this is the car that you might want to take a look at.

With the deiselgate scandal right at their back, Volkswagen will go all out to woo its customers back to its fold and pricing will be a deciding factor.
