Maruti Suzuki Swift Vs Ford Figo Comparo

By Rajkamal

Maruti Suzuki is the leading carmaker in India in terms of sales. The Swift hatchback is the third best seller in India, and is going to receive some stiff competition from the all-new Ford Figo.

The Figo hatchback seems to have entered a territory, to compete with Swift, a car that kind of revolutionized the hatchback market in India. There are reasons why it is so popular in India: good design, fuel efficient, ease of service and maintenance, powerful, and most importantly affordable.

So how does the new Ford Figo compare against the Swift in terms of pricing, performance, specs and features? Let's take a look:

Pricing:
Maruti Suzuki Swift:

  • Petrol - Starts from INR 4.65 lakh onwards
  • Diesel - Starts from INR 5.84 lakh onwards

Ford Figo:

Design:
The Swift has a familiar design, since it has not received any major change for a while now. Compared to when it was launched, the Swift has grown bigger in dimensions and has also received engine upgrades. It features swept up headlights, tail lamps that match the front light design, and the roof line slopes down, to give it a sporty look. The Swift too draws designs from its sedan version, the Dzire.

The Ford Figo on the other hand has seen a major design upgrade compared to the previous generation model. It carries forward the bold Aston Martin inspired front grille and the bold design of the Ford Figo Aspire sedan. It has an impressively designed headlamp and waistline design, giving the car a good road presence.

Being a major criteria these days, the Swift gets literally nothing, apart from seat belts in the base model, however, the top spec model has dual airbags, reverse sensors, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and brake assist.

The Figo is better equipped—standard airbag for the driver, while the top spec variant features side and curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, Emergency assist, perimeter alarm and seat belt reminder.

Verdict:
Any guesses? Well, the Ford Figo is the pick. It has better equipment, better safety, better engine options although the petrol engine returns a marginally lower fuel efficiency figure. The Figo looks better and the automatic transmission option is a boon to drivers in the city. It's marginally cheaper than the Swift too!
