Written By:

Datsun unveiled the Redi-GO which is touted to be the cheapest car in its segment in India. Read on to find out about our first look review.

Exterior & Interior

The Datsun Redi-GO is stylish and contemporary in its design language. With its sharp and angular headlamps to the character lines which runs from the front to the side profile, the Redi-GO makes a good statement. The front grille is hexagonal with chrome embellishment which is large and with the blue Datsun Badge being prominent, the front fascia has a bold stance.

The wheelbase is much shorter, however, the hatchback or urban crossover, as Datsun would like it to be called, does not look smaller, in fact, it looks more modern and sophisticated compared to some of its competitors.

On the side profile, creases form the character lines and give the Redi-GO a taller stance. The character lines start from the lower half of the front door and goes all the way up above the wheel arch. The shoulder line begins from the front of the car and runs along the window bottom line and ends up at the taillamps.

Moving to the rear profile, the Redi-GO taillamps looks like a boomerang and better than the Datsun GO or the GO+. Here is where you realise the car is designed like any small car segment, the boot space is much smaller compared to other rivals.

There are skid plates in the front and the rear and the top trim will come in silver colour and other variants will come in black.

As for the interior, the Datsun Redi-GO is much better looking than the other cars from the GO family. The dashboard is simple yet storage has been given importance, there is a storage space for your mobile phone right close to the charging port.

The music system of the Redi-GO is an audio system with CD, Radio and MP3 player, however, we don't see a touchscreen system, unlike other cars. The air vents for the AC looks good with round finish making it look sophisticated and modern. The plastic quality is good as a small car segment can offer. However, the glove box is damper as its smaller and could probably house some documents.

The seems to be enough space, with the tall boy design, the car looks roomier from the inside. As for the rear seat, a bench design and basic, and could possibly seat two or three depending on the height and size of the person.

Performance & Mileage

The Datsun Redi-GO will share the powertrain from its cousin, the Renault Kwid, which houses a 799cc petrol engine, which pushes out 53bhp at 5678rpm and a healthy torque of 72Nm at 4386rpm. You can expect the mileage to be around 25.17 which the ARAI numbers for the Kwid.

Datsun has certainly set the cat among the pigeons with the Redi-GO, it will definitely challenge its rivals like the evergreen Maruti Alto 800 and the new sensation Renault Kwid. It will, however, depend on the pricing of the Redi-GO, if Datsun gets is right, they could run away with a winner. Expecting that Datsun could price it in the range of Rs. 2.5 lakh ex-showroom.
