Audi A6 Matrix; Test Driving A Sophisticated Aggressor!

We take the Audi A6 Matrix out for a spin in the city of lakes, Udaipur. A perfect location for a vehicle that displays elegance and performance in a single package.

Front Design

The new A6 Matrix gets Matrix headlights upfront, which we will talk later about. Front bumper has been redesigned for a more aggressive and sporty look. Audi signature grille gets chrome treatment and is now based on a single frame, which is on newer models as well.

Side Design

Side profile of Audi A6 Matrix has not been altered too much. It receives the S-Line badge upfront, which is the only spec this model is available in India currently.

Rear Design

Trapezoidal exhaust pipes are most noticeable on the rear end. Audi has redesigned tail-lamps with an LED system that looks in sync with the headlight design of A6 Matrix. Rear also gets a smart looking aerodynamic looking lip over the boot. Overall the vehicle looks sporty and elegant at the same time.

Headlight

Matrix Headlight made its debut by Audi on their A8 L model. Now it is offered as standard equipment on their 2015 A6. It provides the new A6 Matrix a more mean and aggressive looking front. The new LED DRLs resemble the shape of an arrow.

10-Spoke Alloy Wheel

Audi has provided A6 Matrix with 10-Spoke alloy wheels. It gets large 18-inch rims and rubber has been provided by Bridgestone. The handling and ride quality has definitely improved with addition of these tyres.

Interior Dashboard

Interior has received major update and looks more premium and elegant. Wood inlay looks very elegant and sophisticated, owing to the grain design of the Natural Ash Brown wood. Aluminium has been used to a minimum only to highlight the air-conditioner vents.



Front Seats

The front seats can be adjusted to in several directions for a custom driving position. Driver and passenger can opt for the best seating position, so that they can drive longer distances effortlessly.



Instrument Console

Two large dials show RPM and speed, while the centre provides multiple information. We like the subtle incorporation of engine temperature and fuel gauge on either side. Audi confirms that this instrument console will provide various information to the driver. It looks simple and has a clean/elegant design, which will appeal to a wider audience.



Drive Select

To make driving experience even more special Audi engineers have provided A6 Matrix with Drive Select. Comfort mode will provide a plush ride and will take on whatever the road throws at it. Then there is Dynamic which makes the vehicle sporty and responsive. As the name suggests Auto will take care of things automatically judging the driver input, road condition and occupants in the car. In Individual mode, driver can manually change everything according to their preference.



Gearbox

Audi A6 Matrix gets an all-new 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox with dual clutch. This has made gear changes smooth and more precise over previous generation model. It is extremely smooth when driving in bumper to bumper traffic and is more than eager to stretch its legs on open roads.



Rear Air-Conditioner

Comfort is top priority in Audi A6 Matrix rear seat occupants get dual air-conditioner zone. Occupants can set the individual temperature for each one of them. It also gets automatic air-conditioner upfront and can sense direction of sunlight and adjust temperature in the four zones.



Remote Control

In the centre armrest for rear passengers a remote control has been provided to take care of entertainment needs.



Rear Seats

Rear seats are spacious and luxurious offering premium leather covers. Legroom is more than sufficient and tall people will surely enjoy travelling. Comfort options provided is a button to move the front seats ahead from behind itself.



Smart Key

Audi A6 Matrix will come with Smart Keys this system will save the last setting on each of them. This will come in handy when more than one individual is using the vehicle and has their own driving preference.



Driving Experience

No matter which mode you are in the Audi A6 Matrix is deceptively fast and difficult to realise actual pace. Being behind the steering wheel is the most fun as it provides tons of feedback boosting confidence.

Audi A6 Matrix is a huge vehicle and occasionally you do really is it, when pushing it round corners. In comparison to its predecessor the 2015 model is more sharper, agile and smoother. Engineers seem to have paid extra attention in providing better driving experience.



Verdict

The Audi A6 Matrix is rivalled by fellow German products Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. Premium luxury segment is a growing market and it usually comes down to personal preference for most. In our opinion Audi scores maximum in value for money. It offers more gadgets and technology at an attractive price.



Verdict

In terms of driving, once again it is a phenomenal machine, however, most individuals buying A6 Matrix would be sitting behind and not in the driver's seat. Audi engineers could have added a little more oomph for rear occupants.



Audi A6 Matrix

Currently Audi offers its A6 Matrix with a single diesel engine option, we are not sure if this would help them. Audi also does not provide any variant and 2015 model will be available only in the S-Line trim. We personally like that there are no options and you get the best at an attractive price point.
