Yamaha FZ 25 vs Benelli TNT 25: Battle Of The Quarter-Litre Nakeds
We compare two 250cc motorcycles, the Yamaha FZ 25 vs the Benelli TNT 25 to tell you which of the two is a better buy.
Naked street bikes has seen an increase in number and sales in India in the recent past. One of the well sold naked street motorcycle model is the KTM Duke, be it the 200 or the powerful 390.
Soon, other manufacturers wanted a bite of the pie and came up with their own versions, and amongst them are the Benelli TNT 25 and the Yamaha FZ 25. The Yamaha FZ 25 was a much needed launch since the Japanese manufacturer had no contenders in this segment.
Now, let's take a look at how the Yamaha competes with the Benelli TNT 25, in terms of styling, engine specifications, features, and more.
Design
The Yamaha FZ 25 reminds you of the smaller, 150cc version of the FZ, but upon taking a second look, the design elements appear that make the motorcycle stand out. The headlight unit for example, has an aggressive look, and the tank looks more muscular. Other elements like the exhaust and the overall design look similar to the FZ 150.
The Benelli TNT 25 features sharp lines, a muscular fuel tank, and a tiny bikini fairing up front. The entry-level street motorcycle from Benelli borrows styling cues from its older sibling, the TNT 300, apart from a side mounted exhaust that distinguish both the Benellis.
Engine Specification, Mileage, And Gearbox
The Yamaha FZ 25 is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that makes 20bhp and 20Nm of peak torque. The fuel injected engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and Yamaha claims a mileage of 43km/l, while the motorcycle weighs 148kg.
Speaking of the Benelli TNT 25, the motorcycle is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 28bhp and 21.6Nm of peak torque. The TNT 25's engine being fuel injected again, comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox, while the manufacturer claims a mileage of 25km/l from a motorcycle that weighs 159kg.
Features
The Yamaha FZ 25's features include telescopic front forks, monoshock at the rear, disc brakes for the front and rear, 17-inch alloy wheels, fully digital instrument console with shift light and fuel consumption indicator, split seats, LED headlamp, and a 14-litre fuel tank.
The Benelli TNT 25 comes with inverted, upside down (USD) front forks, monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends, semi digital instrument cluster, split seats, and a 17-litre fuel tank. The Benelli does not feature Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and so does the Yamaha FZ 25.
Pricing
Model/ Place | Delhi | Mumbai |
Yamaha FZ 25 | Rs 1.34 lakh | Rs 1.42 lakh |
Benelli TNT 25 | Rs 2.10 lakh | Rs 2.19 lakh |
Note: Prices are approximate on-road values
Verdict
The Yamaha FZ 25 is an important product for the Japanese manufacturer in this segment. The motorcycle is priced appropriate, and offers decent performance, while styling compliments the motorcycle well.
The Benelli offers better equipment and more performance, but also commands a premium over the Yamaha. So when it comes to choosing a motorcycle of the two, the Yamaha will be a better pick if your budget is restricted, however, if that is not the case, the Benelli is something you should consider.
If naked motorcycles are not your cup of tea, then here are images of the newly launched KTM RC 390, which carries forward KTM's racing DNA for street use.
