2016 Paris Motor Show: Skoda Premiers Its Exclusive SUV ‘Kodiaq’
Skoda has unveiled its large SUV Kodiaq at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The design is full of character, space, practicality and added with innovative technology. When launched later this year, it will rival the like of Hyundai Santa Fe and the Land Rover Discovery.
The new SUV from Skoda will be offered with the option of five or seven seater layouts. Skoda says this the only SUV in its segment which provides the third row. The Kodiak looks stronger and angular compared to what we have seen in the Yeti.
Skoda has powered the Kodiaq with the choice of two diesel engines and three petrol. While the familiar diesel engine is the 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill in two states of tune - 148bhp/340Nm and 187bhp/400Nm.
The petrol units are in two states of tune - 1.4-litre with 123bhp/200Nm and a powerful 148bhp/250Nm. The third petrol mill which is a 2.0-litre unit churning out 177bhp and 320Nm of torque.
As for the gearbox, the range-topping diesel and petrol units will be available only in the four-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox. The modest diesel and the 1.4-litre engines are DSG with a front wheel drive and could be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The powerful 148bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine will be paired either with a six-speed DSG or manual gearbox with front wheel drive. The entry-level petrol unit is the only model which will be available with the combination of front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox.
Skoda says the powerful diesel unit can sprint to 100km in just 8.6 seconds, the powerful petrol mill is the quickest with 0-100km/h in 7.8 seconds. On the entertainment front, the Skoda Kodiaq will feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and phone box that comes with inductive wireless charging for smartphones.
On safety and driver assistance features, the Kodiaq will come with Tow Assist - which takes over the steering when reversing slowly - and surround-view cameras that givethe driver top-down view of the SUV. Also featured are the Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and City Emergency Braking among others on the features list.
