2016 Paris Motor Show: Infiniti Presents Its Production Ready Variable Compression Turbo Engine
The 2016 Paris Motor Show is where anything automobile related is being presented and Infiniti has taken the opportunity to present its latest Variable Compression (VC) turbo engine.
The 2016 Paris Motor Show
Infiniti's new VC-Turbo engine is the world's first production ready variable compression ratio engine. The engine promises to be one of the most advanced internal combustion unit ever made, combining the power of a high performance 2.0-litre petrol engine with the torque and efficiency of a diesel engine, without the emissions.
Roland Krueger, President of Infiniti Motor Company, commented: "The pioneering new VC-Turbo powertrain represents a leap forward for engine development. Vehicle engineers believe the breakthrough in internal combustion technology would come from mastering the variable compression ratio.Infiniti will be the first to bring this technology to the market in 2018. This new generation of powertrains will help our global growth and expansion of the Infiniti product portfolio."
Infiniti's VC-Turbo engines uses an advanced multi-link system to raise or lower the piston reach, detecting the way the car is driven and the driving conditions. The engine instantly selects the most suitable engine compression ratio.
With a development target to produce around 268bhp and 390Nm of torque, the VC-Turbo engine is comparable to certain six-cylinder petrol engines in terms of performance, but out performing them in efficiency.
The four-cylinder VC-Turbo engines have lower noise and vibration levels compared to traditional diesel internal combustion, and are also lighter and compact compared to a traditional six-cylinder engine with the same performance.
