2016 Paris Motor Show: Goodyear Showcases Urban CrossOver Concept Tyre
Goodyear's new concept tyre developed exclusively for Lexus made its debut on Friday at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The Lexus UX concept car that was unveiled at the auto show is fitted with the state-of-the-art tyre, named the Urban CrossOver.
In a company release, Goodyear said it had approached the design using Lexus' inside-out philosophy of making the internal elements blend with that of the external ones.
Following this design philosophy, the spokes of the rim run smoothly into the sidewall design of the tyre.
The design work was done at Goodyear's two Innovation Centers located in Akron and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg.
The design for the tyre was created using Goodyear's high-tech laser carving technique and makes use of the tyre maker's 'Sound Comfort Technology', which helps minimise noise in the vehicle's cabin.
A chip inside the tyre conveys important information to the vehicle's on-board computer, improving the stability and performance of the car when cornering hard and braking.
This system also sends tyre pressure and temperature information to the vehicle's computer.
The Urban CrossOver tyre includes Goodyear's Run On Flat Technology, which combines stronger sidewalls that can help the car be driven for about 50 miles after a puncture, or with complete loss of air pressure.
