Jaguar Unveils A 395bhp Electric SUV — The Jaguar I-PACE
Jaguar has unveiled the I-PACE concept, an all electric SUV just ahead of the LA Auto Show
British luxury carmaker Jaguar has revealed its new all electric SUV, the I-PACE, just ahead of the 2016 LA Auto Show. The I-Pace is still in its concept form and will hit production in 2018.
Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum said, "This isn't just a concept. It is a preview of a five-seat production car that will be on the road in 2018. He also said that this is the first battery powered electric vehicle the company has made and will open a new chapter for Jaguar.
For Jaguar, the now Tata owned company, the electric I-PACE will make history for the carmaker when the SUV is launched in 2018 since the carmaker is serious about getting the vehicle right.
The Jaguar I-PACE's chassis is specially built for an electric drivetrain. The cabin is pushed forward to offer more interior space, while also offering better visibility to the driver.
Powering the new Jaguar I-PACE is a liquid-cooled 90 kWh battery, powered by two 200hp motors on each axle. The motors provide the SUV a combined power of 400 horsepower and 700Nm of torque.
Power is constantly sent to all four wheels of the Jaguar I-PACE and on a fully charged tank, the electric SUV has a range of approximately 500km. The battery even has a rapid charging option.
Inside, the I-PACE boasts of Windsor leather, aluminum, carbon fiber, and Alcantara. The driver gets a 12-inch HD, virtual instrument cluster, while a 10-inch TFT along with a secondary 5.5-inch display occupy the centre console.
Jaguar is already accepting reservations for the SUV online, and the company officials claim that a production variant of the Jaguar I-PACE will be showcased at an auto show next year.
