Yamaha MT-03 Street Fighter Could Debut At 2016 Auto Expo
Yamaha Motors India will be present at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. There is an increasing possibility that the Japanese-based two-wheeler could showcase its MT-03 street fighter. The goal is to increase Yamaha's product portfolio in the Indian market.
MT-03 street fighter is based on Yamaha's YZF-R3 motorcycle, which is currently on sale in India. Several parts and components will be shared between both motorcycles to keep costs low. Yamaha MT-03 loses the full fairing and gets an all-new headlamp and an upright riding posture.
The MT-03 will be powered by a 321cc, inline two-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Yamaha engineers have tuned the engine to produce 41.42bhp and 29.6Nm of peak torque output. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox for a smooth riding experience.
Currently, the MT-03 is on sale in several international markets and is likely to be launched in India by mid-2016. Just like the YZF-R3, Yamaha Motors India will introduce the MT-03 as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit. We expect Yamaha's street fighter to be priced slightly lower than its fully-faired motorcycle.
Tough competition awaits the Yamaha MT-03 in India as well as in other markets. The BMW G310R will be present at the 2016 Auto Expo, which will be a premium offering in the street fighter segment. KTM Duke 390 and Kawasaki Z250 also pose a threat in the segment.
