Frankfurt - BMW Motorrad C Evolution Electric Scooter Production Spec
BMW is on a roll this year. It recently launched the i3 electric compact car. It has followed that up with the i8 electric supercar and also being showcased at Frankfurt Auto Show is the C Evolution electric scooter. You may remember the C Evolution from its several previous outings since its launch last year.
However, this time BMW Motorrad is displaying the production ready C Evolution. After undergoing months of testing the maxi scooter from BMW has made public debut. While most of the details are out, pricing is yet to be announced.
BMW Motorrad describes the C Evolution as a two wheeler that will provide superior ride quality of a motorcycle and the specific agility of a scooter.
The source of the scooters power is s 8 kWh capacity lithium ion battery, which provides a range of 100 kilometers.
The battery, which has a metal casing, is a stressed member of the chassis and forms most of the central part of the scooter. Thus, the C Evolution is not the lightest of scooters, at 265 kg. It also suffers from small storage compartments.
BMW explains, the battery takes four hours to charge fully, using standard 220v socket with a 12A current.
Running off the battery is a liquid-cooled, permanent magnet synchronous motor. The motor generates 15 HP constantly, but keep the throttle open for long and it can generate a peak power of 47 HP. Peak torque stands at 53 ft-lb.
The C Evolution has a decent top speed of 120 km/h (electronically limited). 0-50 km/h takes just 2.7 seconds and 100 km/h is reached in 6.2 seconds. These performance figures are said to be the equivalent of a conventional 600cc two wheeler.
Without needing to tell, C Evolution has regenerative braking. It also comes with ABS, BMW Traction Control Assist technology, heated grips, daytime running lights and a TFT colour display.
The scooter offers four riding modes - Rode, Eco Pro, Sail and Dynamic. Not only do these vary the way the scooter rides, but also affects the power regeneration characteristics.
Road: Max acceleration, complete energy regeneration capability and 50 percent regeneration while coasting.
Eco Pro: Acceleration is restricted, with focus being on maximum energy regeneration.
Sail: This mode facilitates coasting. When activated, energy regeneration from coasting is minimized. This reduces the braking effect that comes with regeneration from coasting.
Dynamic: This mode combines full acceleration with, what BMW describes as "high degree of recuperation." This sounds like the mode where acceleration and regeneration are balanced.
